Introducing... our new Creative Director
The eagle has landed
Step forward Mr Neil Calcutt. Neil joins us with a strong track record of managing and delivering high-impact creative solutions across a range of branding, corporate, retail, digital, marketing and event sectors. Now we could just witter on about his CV and achievements but we thought it would be much more interesting to put Neil under the spotlight with a few questions:
What made you want to become a designer?
I've been drawing ever since I can remember. From a very early age I picked up a pencil, and that's continued into my adult life. In school I seemed to flourish at anything creative. I knew then that design was my career path to walk. I've always wanted a career I could literally bleed for. Design isn't just my job, but my hobby too! I literally eat, sleep and drink all things creative.
What do you think is the secret to a successful creative team?
Communication, passion, respect, team work and a smile.
What are the least and most enjoyable aspects of being a Creative Director?
The least enjoyable aspects; not having enough hours in the day and a tea shortage.
The most enjoyable aspects; are seeing my team everyday, and getting stuck in to some of the most enjoyable and best work/projects a creative could wish for. I get total enjoyment from mentoring, leading a team, and pushing the company forward from a creative perspective.
What’s the toughest job you’ve ever worked on?
Rebranding a London design agency from initial concept through to completion on my own, to the usual very tight time scales. Lots of long days, and late nights. But a very proud and rewarding outcome.
What are 5 things that get your juices flowing?
Listening to Spotify. Watching the TV show 24, makes you feel invincible as everyone wants to be Jack Bauer. Seeing my football team play; the mighty reds of Manchester. My sketch pad and receiving great feedback from clients.
What is your personal motto?
I've got a couple. Will let you decide…
1. Wake up. Kick arse. Be kind. Repeat.
2. It's not how good you are, it's how good you want to be.
If you were an animal, what would you be?
Has to be an Eagle. Confident, loyal, spreads its wings, flying high, eyes wide open and always on the lookout.
